**The short version**
- The Galaxy Z Fold 8 starts at $1,899 in the US, $100 less than the iPhone Duo, and is lighter (201 g vs 254 g) and thinner (9.7 mm vs 11.3 mm folded).
- The iPhone Duo has IP68 water and dust resistance (the Fold 8 is IP48), a 2TB option, and beat the Fold 8 on battery life and CPU scores in Tom's Guide's tests.
- Both have 7.6-inch inner screens and no telephoto lens; the Fold 8 adds DeX and a SIM slot, while the Duo faces unconfirmed early screen-crack reports.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Apple iPhone Duo are close rivals: both are wide, book-style foldables with 7.6-inch inner screens, two rear cameras and no telephoto lens. The Fold 8 is cheaper ($1,899 vs $1,999 in the US), lighter (201 g vs 254 g) and thinner, and adds Samsung DeX and a physical SIM slot. The iPhone Duo counters with IP68 water and dust resistance, a 2TB option and, in Tom's Guide's testing, longer battery life and faster CPU scores.

This comparison draws on official spec sheets from Apple and Samsung plus published testing from reputable outlets, as of October 26, 2026\. GessyMorgan has not tested either phone.

## Which Galaxy Z Fold 8 is this?

Samsung launched two book-style foldables this summer. The [Galaxy Z Fold 8, unveiled on July 22, 2026](https://9to5google.com/2026/07/22/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-7-official-specs-price/?ref=localhost), is a new wider model with a roughly 4:3 inner screen, the same passport-like shape Apple chose for the Duo. The more conventionally shaped Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is the direct successor to the Fold 7, [SamMobile notes](https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-confirms-galaxy-z-fold-8-price-starts-at-1899/?ref=localhost).

This article compares the standard Fold 8, because it is the Duo's closest match in shape and price.

## Price: the Fold 8 is $100 cheaper in the US

In the US, the two phones share three storage tiers, and the Fold 8 costs $100 less at each:

- **256GB:** iPhone Duo $1,999; Galaxy Z Fold 8 $1,899
- **512GB:** iPhone Duo $2,199; Galaxy Z Fold 8 $2,099
- **1TB:** iPhone Duo $2,599; Galaxy Z Fold 8 $2,499 (with 16GB of RAM)
- **2TB:** iPhone Duo only, at $3,199

Duo prices are from [Apple's US store](https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-iphone/iphone-duo?ref=localhost). Fold 8 tiers are from SamMobile and [Tom's Guide](https://tech.yahoo.com/phones/articles/iphone-duo-vs-samsung-galaxy-051500000.html?ref=localhost), and [Samsung's US page](https://www.samsung.com/us/smartphones/galaxy-z-fold8/?ref=localhost) lists a $1,899.99 starting price along with trade-in credit, so what buyers actually pay varies.

In the UK, Tom's Guide lists £1,999 for the Duo and £1,699 for the Fold 8\. In India, the Duo starts at ₹2,99,900, per Apple's store and [Techloy's price list](https://www.techloy.com/iphone-duo-price-where-to-buy/?ref=localhost). [Samsung India's store page](https://www.samsung.com/in/smartphones/galaxy-z-fold8/buy/?ref=localhost) showed Fold 8 variants and an EMI plan but no list price as of October 26, 2026.

## Design, size and durability

- **Weight:** 254 g for the Duo vs 201 g for the Fold 8\. Samsung calls the Fold 8 the world's lightest book-style foldable.
- **Thickness:** 11.3 mm folded and 5.2 mm open for the Duo, vs 9.7 mm and 4.5 mm for the Fold 8.
- **Frame:** titanium on the Duo; Armor Aluminum on the Fold 8.
- **Water and dust:** IP68 on the Duo vs IP48 on the Fold 8\. As [Android Authority](https://www.androidauthority.com/iphone-duo-vs-galaxy-z-fold-8-3712638/?ref=localhost) points out, Samsung does not match the Duo's full IP68 protection.
- **Unlocking:** both use a fingerprint sensor in the side button. The Duo has no Face ID.

Durability is still an open question for the Duo. Some owners have reported inner screens cracking along the hinge, which [9to5Mac](https://9to5mac.com/2026/10/25/iphone-duo-displays-cracking/?ref=localhost) counted at about ten cases by October 25; the cause is unconfirmed. Our [iPhone Duo explainer](https://www.gessymorgan.com/iphone-duo-price-specs-release/) covers those reports in detail.

In iFixit's teardown, reported by [MacRumors](https://www.macrumors.com/2026/10/25/ifixit-iphone-duo-teardown/?ref=localhost), the Duo's hinge picked up less dust than the Fold 8's in a dust test, and the Duo scored 5 out of 10 for repairability against 4 for the Fold 8.

## Displays

Both inner screens measure 7.6 inches and both refresh at up to 120Hz. Per [Apple's spec page](https://www.apple.com/iphone-duo/specs/?ref=localhost), the Duo's inner panel is 1878 x 2670 with a nano-texture anti-glare finish, and its outer screen is 5.4 inches. The Fold 8's inner panel is 2448 x 1848 with an anti-reflection coating, and its cover screen is 5.5 inches. Both companies quote 3,000 nits peak brightness.

In Tom's Guide's measurements, the Fold 8 reached 2,649 nits against 2,558 for the Duo. The Duo supports the USB-C Apple Pencil, which Apple said would arrive later this year, while Samsung's US page confirms the Fold 8 has no S Pen support.

## Performance and software

The Duo uses Apple's A20 Pro, the same chip as the iPhone 18 Pro. The Fold 8 runs the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy with 12GB or 16GB of RAM. Apple does not publish RAM, but [MacRumors](https://www.macrumors.com/roundup/iphone-duo/?ref=localhost) and Tom's Guide report 12GB for the Duo.

Tom's Guide's Geekbench results favoured the Duo on CPU: 4,007 single-core and 11,363 multi-core, versus 2,978 and 9,811 for the Fold 8\. The Fold 8 led on Geekbench AI, 72,242 to 69,438.

Software is where the Fold 8 pulls ahead, according to Android Authority. It can run up to three apps on the inner screen plus floating windows, and Samsung DeX turns it into a desktop on an external monitor. The Duo, running iOS 27.1, shows two apps side by side. The Fold 8 ships with Android 17 and One UI 9, and Samsung promises up to seven OS upgrades; Apple does not state a support period. For more on Samsung's software, see our [One UI 9 update guide](https://www.gessymorgan.com/samsung-one-ui-9-update-devices/).

## Cameras

- **iPhone Duo:** 48MP main and 48MP ultra wide, a 2x crop from the main sensor, a 12MP outer selfie camera, an under-display inner camera, and 4K video at up to 120 fps.
- **Galaxy Z Fold 8:** 50MP wide and 50MP ultra wide, 2x optical-quality zoom, up to 10x digital zoom, 10MP cameras on both screens, and 8K video.

Neither phone has a dedicated telephoto lens, a shared compromise that [SlashGear](https://www.slashgear.com/2289951/iphone-duo-vs-samsung-galaxy-z-fold-8-how-they-compare/?ref=localhost) also highlights. Tom's Guide gave the Duo the edge on overall camera quality.

## Battery and charging

Samsung lists a 4,800 mAh battery and up to 26 hours of video playback for the Fold 8\. Apple does not publish the Duo's capacity, but rates it for up to 24 hours of typical use and up to 31 hours of video on the inner screen. Tom's Guide lists 4,883 mAh across the Duo's two cells.

In Tom's Guide's battery test, the Duo lasted 13 hours 20 minutes against 10 hours 6 minutes for the Fold 8\. The outlet notes this was a new test, and that the Fold 8 scored 12 hours 19 minutes in its older one.

For charging, Apple quotes about 50% in 20 minutes with a 60W or higher adapter, and up to 25W over MagSafe or Qi2\. Tom's Guide lists the Fold 8 at 45W wired and 20W wireless. Despite the lower wattage, the Fold 8 charged slightly faster in Tom's Guide's test, reaching 70% in 30 minutes against 66% for the Duo. Note that SlashGear lists 35W MagSafe for the Duo, while Apple's spec page says up to 25W.

## Availability

The Fold 8 has been on sale since August 7, 2026, according to SamMobile, and Tom's Guide describes it as readily available. The iPhone Duo was [announced on September 9](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2026/09/apple-unveils-iphone-duo/?ref=localhost) and launched on October 23 in more than 70 countries, but delivery estimates have stretched into January in some markets.

## Our take

Based on the spec sheets and published testing cited here, neither phone is a clear winner. The Fold 8 makes more sense for buyers who want a lighter, cheaper foldable with desktop-style multitasking, a SIM slot and a stated seven-upgrade promise. The iPhone Duo suits buyers who value water and dust protection, CPU speed, the longer battery result in Tom's Guide's test and Apple's ecosystem, and who can accept the extra weight and wait for stock.

Tom's Guide reached a similar split, recommending the Fold 8 for software-focused buyers and the Duo for Apple fans who want the more physically capable phone. The Duo's early crack reports are the main unknown, so Apple's response is worth watching before spending $2,000 or more.

## What to watch next

- Apple's response to the iPhone Duo inner-screen crack reports.
- Duo stock and delivery times, including the launch in 28 more countries and regions on October 30, 2026.
- Price changes or trade-in offers on the Fold 8, which has now been on sale for nearly three months.
